Over the centuries, reports of an upcoming apocalypse have been greatly exaggerated, to amend the Mark Twain quote. In biblical times, it was usually an angel or other heavenly messenger who unveiled the revelation and so it continued into the Middle Ages. These days it’s more likely to be a fresh faced scientist.
