Booze and religion
26 February 2020
Presented by Ed Kessler.
Production by David Perry, Tara Zammit.
Alcohol can be seen as a way of celebrating and being sociable; as a symbol of the blood of Christ… Taking alcohol is certainly an ancient custom. But alcohol can of course be problematic. Just take a stroll round any city centre at 11 pm. on a Friday or Saturday night and you’ll see the evidence. And in the Islamic tradition and in some Christian denominations alcohol is forbidden. With Ed Kessler are Reuven Leigh, Duncan Hay and Esther-Miriam Wagner, and they're asking what is the theology of alcohol?
