A 1971 autopsy specimen from a 91 year old man who went on an outing organised by an old people's home. He had a large lunch and tea. There was much drinking of beer. During the early evening he vomited three pints of blood. On admission to Guy's he had a blood pressure of 100/60; Hb. 6.9; PCV 29%. Despite a blood transfusion (4 pints plus 6 pints dextran) he died the next day.
