UPPER: A 1947 autopsy specimen from a 39 year old woman who had been attending Guy's as an Outpatient for mitral stenosis, suffering a series of attacks of failure during the nine months prior to her death. At autopsy extreme congestive failure changes were present. LOWER: From a woman of 55 who died of hypertensive heart failure in 1899 and was found to have unilateral renal sclerosis, the significance of which was not then fully recognised.
