A 1938 autopsy specimen from a 53 year old sailor who fell down a companionway on board ship on March 20th. He was found unconscious with a bruised scalp and cut ear; a black eye developed next day, but no fracture was suspected. He became confused on March 22nd and on arrival in dock at 4 pm that day was sent to hospital where suppurative meningitis was diagnosed. Autopsy upon his death on March 24th showed a fissure fracture of the right temporal bone extending through the wing of the sphenoid to the roof of the nose.
